Uttunga presents Bhasa’s Urubhanga, staged in the style of Japanese Kabuki theatre. Kannada translation: Seshadri Iyengar | Direction: Sneha Mukkannappa (Ninasam) The Mahabharata war comes down to its final moment: Duryodhana lies with his thighs shattered by Bhima’s mace. Bhasa’s Sanskrit play is one of the rare tragedies of classical Indian theatre, and it shows Duryodhana not as a villain but as a fallen hero who keeps his dignity in defeat. Uttunga brings this ancient tragedy to the Kannada stage through the stylised visual language of Kabuki.
